| Davydova's vault looked like a mistake almost. All excellent. I don't believe I've seen many vaults 'stuck' with more authority than Shannon's there. |

| I think it's known that Shannon actually moved (the slightest interval, if you may). But it still should've been an eleven, given all the tens that had been given in the past. Is it possible to really "stick" a vault? I'm just wondering from a non-gymnast's point of view. Meng and Mo are great. And so is Yang Yun. She vaults so "old school". Everything about both her and her vault speaks beauty. And I don't think I can count Produnova 1999 as "old school", can I? Unless the "old school" was actually technically better than "new school", which is a statement that I'm inclined to agree with nowadays. (aa world champion on beam in london) |

Unless the "old school" was actually technically better than "new school", which is a statement that I'm inclined to agree with nowadays. (aa world champion on beam in london) I'm guessing in order to perfectly "stick" any landing, the vector described by the motion if the gymnast must ultimately point directly downwards. 1999's been a few years now...I guess you could make an argument for it being "old school". COP was much different, and all that. |

| MAybe she's not the most powerful vaulter ever, but I always loved Boginskaya's vaults: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCqVWiiyYlg&feature=related https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_zrKSteV8k&feature=related I love seeing her running towards the table.
Here she's performing a pretty unusual (for her) and rather good Front pike. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzNMYKMadDg&feature=related |

| I don't think I could ever pick an absolute favorite, and my list could go on forever.
Here are a few I can think of off the top of my head:
Shaposhnikova 1980 Compulsories Davydova 1980 EF Kraeker 1981 EF (I think this is probably the worst ever year for vaulting) Kim 1976 EF Mostepanova 1984 AG Shushunova 1985 Worlds Yurchenko - 1983 TF, 1987 Euros, many, many more. Dudnik 1989 TF Laschenova 1989 TF Lyssenko 1992 Miller 1992
When does it stop being "old school," exactly?
I know I am forgetting a million and a half of my favorites... |
